Self-Exclusion program at Crown

When you need a break from gambling, Crown’s Self-Exclusion program can help you stay away from the casino, so you can focus on other areas of your life.

Guests can sign a voluntary agreement to exclude themselves from the gambling areas at Crown Melbourne, Crown Perth and Crown Sydney. There is also an added option of Self Excluding from The Star Sydney Casino. A Self-Exclusion is for a minimum period of 12 months, with longer options available. These options can be discussed with the Crown PlaySafe Team.

Applicants are required to successfully complete the revocation process before being permitted to return to the casino. The steps to revocation include:

4. Attend a meeting with the Crown PlaySafe Team to discuss and plan your return to the Casino.

5. Your application will be reviewed by Crown and the Crown PlaySafe team will contact you with an outcome.

6. If your application is successful, attend a Gaming Resumption Information Program meeting to finalise your plan to return to the casino and reapply for membership if you wish to do so.

Approval of an application is at Crown's sole discretion. Crown will need to be satisfied that the person seeking revocation has appropriately addressed the issues that led to an Exclusion.

Have a question for us?

If you have any additional questions that aren't covered below, please contact the Crown PlaySafe Team for assistance at any time on 1800 801 098 or email cps@crownmelbourne.com.au

What documents have I signed?

  • You have signed a legal document between Crown Sydney, Melbourne and Perth (together referred to as Crown) and yourself that prevents you from entering any Gaming area operated by Crown.
  • Where applicable, you may also have signed a document that prevents you from entering any of the Gaming areas operated by The Star Entertainment Group.

What do I do now?

  • We support you in your decision to self-exclude and strongly suggest that you contact a counselling service of your preference or Gambler’s Help on 1800 858 858 to schedule an appointment to discuss your relationship with gambling.
  • A referral to Gambler’s Help is included in the information that you have been provided. Research shows that seeking support soon after excluding is a positive step to managing your gambling.

I have signed the Application for Self-Exclusion at Crown Melbourne. Can I still visit the Gaming areas at Crown Sydney or Crown Perth?

No, you must not attempt to access the gaming areas at any Crown property until your Self-Exclusion has been revoked in writing by Crown.

What will happen if I enter the gaming area at any Crown properties?

  • If you attempt to, or enter a gaming area, this may be recorded as a 'breach of your Self-Exclusion Order and Agreement'. You will be refused entry or asked to leave the gaming area.
  • Any breach may extend the period before you can apply for revocation, winnings may be forfeited, and fines could be applied by the government regulator (as per the Casino Control Act). Crown may also impose a ban that extends to the whole property.

Do you inform other Gaming operators about my Self-Exclusion at Crown?

Yes, as required by law, your exclusion information has been passed onto The Star Sydney for evaluation by their own team. This evaluation may mean that you will be excluded from The Star Sydney and Crown has no control over this.

Why did I get excluded from Star when I only asked for exclusion from Crown?

Crown is required by law to inform The Star Sydney when someone is excluded. The Star Casinos may decide to exclude you, but this is a decision that they will make.

What happens with my Crown Rewards membership after I self-exclude?

  • To enable your Self-Exclusion, your membership to Crown Rewards has been suspended, any accrued points and associated benefits have been removed. Your membership card is deactivated and cannot be used for parking, discounts or other benefits at Crown venues.
  • Self-exclusion also opts you out of all direct marketing communications from Crown.

Can I still dine at Crown restaurants or stay at any Crown property?

Yes, you are welcome to enjoy any hotel, retail, food and beverage facilities at Crown properties that are not located on the gaming areas. However, you will not be able to access discounts or Crown Rewards benefits that you may have had with your previous Membership Tier.

Who do I contact if I need extra support during the time of the Exclusion period?

  • We recommend that you contact Gambler’s Help for support on 1800 858 858 or via their website
  • The Crown PlaySafe Team are here to help you 24/7. Please feel free to contact us on 1800 801 098 or email cps@crownmelbourne.com.au for more information.
  • You may also visit the Crown PlaySafe Centre for further support options.

I changed my mind, and I don’t want to be excluded anymore, can it be removed?

  • A Self-Exclusion remains in effect until the nominated period has ended and you have received written notice from Crown revoking your Self-Exclusion.
  • This means that you are unable to return to the gaming area until you have engaged with Crown PlaySafe and completed the revocation process.
  • While Crown PlaySafe understands that you may change your mind about your Self-Exclusion, and a right of appeal may exist in your state, we support your decision to self-exclude and are committed to helping you stay on track.
  • Crown PlaySafe can assist you with any questions you have about your Self-Exclusion.

Does my Self-Exclusion automatically end?

  • No, you must apply to have your Self-Exclusion ended (revoked) and you can only apply after the completion of the minimum period you selected at the time of your Self-Exclusion.
  • There is no guarantee that your exclusion will be revoked.
  • You may not enter the gaming area of any Crown casino while excluded.
  • If you are unsure when the minimum period is due to end, please contact the Crown PlaySafe Team on 1800 801 098 for assistance.

Who can remove (revoke) my Self-Exclusion?

Your exclusion can only be revoked in writing by Crown. Your exclusion from Crown cannot be revoked by your counsellor, Star Casinos, or other casinos.

How do I start the revocation process to end my Self-Exclusion?

Do I need to attend the counselling sessions to end my Self-Exclusion?

  • Yes, you are required to attend counselling sessions and receive a counselling report to support your application.
  • We suggest that you speak with counselling services as soon as you can as this will provide the best opportunity for support throughout the time of your Self-Exclusion. Please review the information that you were provided, this will assist in finding the right counsellor for you.
  • Alternatively, the Crown PlaySafe team are happy to organise a referral for you.

Once I submit my application for revocation, can I come back straight away?

  • No, the Crown PlaySafe Team will review your application and may schedule a meeting with you. The information collected is then presented to a panel to decide on an outcome. The Crown PlaySafe Team will inform you about the outcome.
  • You are still excluded during this process and may not enter any gaming area, at any Crown property.

What happens if my application for revocation is approved?

If successful, you will be notified that your revocation has been approved. Your membership approval may be subject to certain gaming conditions which you must agree to.

What happens if my application for revocation is declined?

  • If your application for revocation is declined, you remain excluded from any gaming area at Crown.
  • You will be informed by your preferred contact method and when you can reapply for revocation.
